Body Fat Measurement & Analysis
Measuring body fat percentage is a more accurate health indicator than weight alone. Methods include skinfold caliper measurement and weight-based calculations to determine lean mass vs fat mass. Normal body fat ranges differ between men and women.
Consult your doctor or specialist for an accurate body fat assessment and ideal target range.
Weight Loss Programme
A safe and effective weight loss programme should focus on long-term benefits, guided physical activity, healthy eating habits, and ongoing monitoring. Crash diets can be counterproductive and lead to binge eating. Speak to your healthcare provider to find a programme that suits your body type and goals.
Eating Disorders
Common eating disorders include:
- Anorexia Nervosa – refusal to eat, fear of weight gain, extreme weight loss. Can be fatal if untreated. Treatment includes medical supervision, nutritional support and psychological care.
- Bulimia Nervosa – cycles of binge eating followed by purging. Causes throat inflammation, tooth decay and dehydration. Treatment includes behavioural therapy and medication.
- Binge Eating Disorder – uncontrolled overeating accompanied by guilt and shame, often linked to psychological distress. Treatment includes therapy, medication and dietary management.
Weight & Diet
Weight gain is often linked to excess calorie intake over expenditure. Long-term lifestyle changes are more effective than short-term crash diets. Practical tips:
- Walk more; take the stairs instead of escalators
- Switch refined carbs to whole grain and high-fibre options
- Avoid sugary juices; drink plenty of water
- Pack healthy snacks instead of buying fast food
- Be mindful of salad dressings and portion sizes
Nutritional Counselling
For the first 6 months of a baby’s life, breast milk alone provides complete nutrition. After 6 months, complementary foods should be introduced alongside breastfeeding. Consult your paediatrician for a personalised meal plan, vaccinations schedule and growth monitoring for your child.
Cough & Cold
Cough is the body’s defence mechanism to clear the airways. Most respiratory tract infections are caused by viruses and resolve with over-the-counter medications or antibiotics. Symptoms include cough, fever, headache and chest pain. The peak mucus phase lasts 2–3 days; full resolution may take 2–3 weeks.
Prevention tips
- Avoid close contact with infected individuals
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water
- Don’t share towels, handkerchiefs or toys
- Stay active, hydrate well and get adequate sleep
Health Hazards of Running
Running is excellent for health but carries some risks:
- Muscle inflammation from overtraining
- Cardiac events from pushing too hard
- Fractures, sprains and strains
- Lower immunity with excessive exercise (especially marathons)
- Tendonitis from repetitive impact
Wear proper footwear, monitor your heart rate, take vitamins after intense exercise, and check with your doctor before starting a running programme.
Sports Injuries
Common sports injuries include sprains and strains, shin splints, stress fractures, joint dislocations, shoulder separations, knee/ACL injuries and concussions. First aid provides temporary relief, but always consult a doctor for accurate assessment and treatment regardless of injury severity.

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) requires a medical examination as part of the work pass application process. Checks include cardiovascular and respiratory systems, mental health, chest X-ray, blood tests and HIV screening. Ensure you attend an authorised clinic.
