Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most frequent sexually transmitted infection, commonly found infecting both men and women. It is one of the leading causes of cervical cancers.
How is HPV Spread?
HPV is contracted through sexual contact with an infected person, commonly through vaginal or anal intercourse. Even if an infected person shows no signs or symptoms, HPV can be transmitted through skin-to-skin contact. Symptoms may appear after a few weeks, months or even years.
What health problems can HPV cause?
HPV can lead to cancer and genital warts. The types that cause warts differ from those that cause cancer. Cancers caused by HPV often show no symptoms until a later stage.
How can I avoid HPV?
- Get vaccinated — HPV vaccines are accessible to everyone aged 9 to 26.
- Get regular cervical cancer screenings, health exams and PAP smears.
- Always use latex condoms and practise safe sex.

What is Pneumonia?

Pneumococcal Disease
Pneumococcal disease is caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria and is responsible for many deaths worldwide each year. You are at higher risk if you are aged 65 and above, have a weak immune system, or are aged 18–64 with diabetes, chronic lung, cardiovascular, kidney or liver disease. Influenza
Influenza is a contagious respiratory infection caused by flu viruses that travel through the air and enter via the nose or mouth. Getting the flu vaccine annually is important, especially for vulnerable groups. Medisave-claimable and CHAS subsidies are available for eligible Singaporeans and PRs. Vaccine costs approximately $70 before subsidies.
Childhood Vaccines
From birth through 6 years old, children must receive scheduled vaccinations to boost their immune system and develop antibodies. Common childhood vaccines protect against:

Preventive Vaccinations for Adults
Vaccinations remain important throughout adulthood. Your doctor will assess your medical conditions to advise the right vaccines for you. Key adult vaccines include:
- Seasonal Flu — annually
- Tdap or Td — protection from whooping cough, tetanus and diphtheria
- HPV vaccine — prevents HPV strains linked to cervical cancer
- Hepatitis B, measles, mumps, chickenpox and meningococcal (especially for healthcare workers)
- Pregnant women: Tdap recommended at 27–36 weeks each pregnancy
